Q. What is Socrates' Tree?
Socrates' Tree is an online decision support tool designed to engage a wide
variety of stakeholders, stimulate thinking and record people's views. It is
particularly useful when approaching a rebuild, refurbishment or reorganisation
project as a way of kick-starting the process, or testing ideas along the way.
Q. Who can use Socrates' Tree?
Socrates' Tree is appropriate for a wide range of users including students,
teachers, non-teaching staff, SLT, governors and local authority staff. It can
be used for both primary and secondary schools as well as FE and HE colleges
and other organisations involved in delivering learning such as CLCs. The tool
can also be tailored for use in a range of other sectors and industries.
Q. How does it work?
Socrates' Tree presents users with a series of questions or 'dilemmas' that
challenge their thinking, taking them back to first principles to establish
what they really think about a range of issues. There are no right or wrong
answers. Responses are simply collected to compare and contrast the views of
different people on the same issues.
